Toy Boat (Graham and Schlageter 30) was donated to the Club in Autumn, 2003, She is 30 feet long, has an open transom, a 51' mast, many sail controls, beautiful sails, and an "oversized" beam, thus creating a wonderful educational platform.
Toy Boat is a Graham and Schlageter 30, and has a rich history to inspire nautical education among Hoofer sailors. Premiere in her history is her section victory in the 1991 Chicago Mac Race, in which she also placed second among all vessels. And most interestingly, she finished 2nd in her section in the 1987 Chicago Mac Race, 4 spots ahead of the Club's very own Soma. She competed 9 years through the 1980s and 1990s in the "Chicago Boat of the Year" Championship Series, winning it 3 times.
Toy boat continues her proud racing heritage by participating in the Mendota Yacht Club racing series through the sailing season. This is an opportunity for you to race against some of finest sailor in the area!
Lessons on Toy will focus primarily on performance racing, seamanship, and dynamics of a large crew. Beginner sailors are welcome on all lessons and races! No experience necessary!
